Workmen at a Hotel

Post by Lee »

Waiting in a hotel lobby area and the door opens. In comes a heavily-laden workman, mid-forties wearing a yellow hi-viz jacket. Struggling to keep hold of all his equipment/bags, he starts looking all round him and then says loudly, to himself, "Where's the reception... Ah, there!"

As he goes to make his way around the corner to reception, a younger lad, early twenties, dressed similarly in a yellow jacket, jeans, work boots, etc, comes in from the outside carrying a huge canvass bag. He sees his older work mate heading off and suddenly the older one calls back, "There's a toilet over there, Jase!"

With that, the younger one says, "Oh Thank God!", drops his big, heavy bag on the floor and virtually runs into the toilet, leaving his colleague to proceed to the reception desk.

Don't you sometimes wish you could transport yourself back 15 minutes and be sitting in their van with them?

I know I wish that sort of thing often! The lead-up which we didn't see evokes all kinds of thoughts, doesn't it?

So what might have happened here? Did they get caught in traffic too long on their way? Did "Jase" not use the toilet before the journey for some reason, maybe because on their previous work site there wasn't one particularly nearby? Was there some boss-subordinate relationship between the two of them which played its part there? What else can we think of?

With age often comes prudence. It's a fact that the part of the brain that governs judgment doesn't fully develop in young males until as late as age 26. Possibly the young man drank more coffee than was wise and/or failed to take advantage of a toilet when it was available. The older man was more experienced and prudent.

There could be kinkier explanations. As Brian implies, they could have a dominant-submissive relationship and perhaps Jase simply wasn't allowed to go until he was desperate. Perhaps the older man has a much larger bladder and enjoys holding longer.
