A not uncommon situation. She apparently was in no rush to pee but he (1) was drinking liquids, probably more than she was, and (2) she may have used the toilet wherever they had been and he figured he'd just hold it until they got home. Men of that age do these things and sometimes are surprised when they have to pee really bad!
