I've just spotted this re Ross Tucker, the retired American Basketball player. From my research into Basketball players, I'm getting the impression that going in their pants isn't uncommon.

Judging from the helmets in the background, it looks like Ross was an (American) football player. From the waist down, they'll usually wear a jockstrap (or compression shorts), with knee pads and thigh guards, and pants that are elastic and tight-fitting. Depending on the material, they can definitely show moisture, and once they're fully soaked, they don't leave much to the imagination.

On the gridiron, however, any wetness can probably be mistaken for sweat, and otherwise go unnoticed. In the video, Ross describes the constant hydration that football players must undertake for that grueling sport, and the mental tension of playing through a full bladder with just minutes left in the game. If there's time for a quick break on the sidelines, the etiquette is supposedly to grab a bunch of spare towels, press them up against the crotch, and let go, hoping to soak up as much urine as possible before throwing the towels away. During a play, though, athletes would have no choice but to piss themselves right in the middle of the action.

In the competitive environment of professional sports, where self-control is critical and the psychological pressure to project strength is likely constant, managing the discomfort of one's bodily needs quickly becomes second nature for athletes. But when you just can't hold it any more and everything is forced out from your conscious awareness except the game in front of you, wetting yourself in full view of the entire audience without caring who notices might well be a football player's way of handling it "like a man."

Athletes probably are accustomed to holding their bladders, which may explain the number of incidents and accidents involving athletes who are seen or arrested for urinating in inappropriate places. They think they can hold it and they can't.
