I hope Private Eye wasn't too rude about Adrian Chiles' evident interest? I know the Eye can be merciless with people, but an interest in peeing and its issues is not something anyone would want bandied about and ridiculed.

Having said that... we're not averse to talking about celebrities' peeing mishaps whenever they occur. So I'd better swallow my hypocrisy!

This article about a new habit certain film makers have of making their films ultra-long (over three hours) makes me keen to get back into the habit of going to the cinema. The journalist seems to think it's a sort of male ego thing, and the key point is at the end of the article:

Size isn't everything in movies, but it sure helps when you're peeing in a bottle.

I can definitely believe it! Many are so badly looked after people won’t use them too.

In urban areas it is increasingly difficult to find public toilets. The most common places these days are fast food restuarants and public parks. Even travel centres are not immune. The bus and train station don't have access to facilities, and most of them that are staying open charge 5p/10m or 20p. However, they also now take card payments

I work in an area that is effectively back stage within the fast food system. Even though it is mandated by my management that we have access to facilities where the public does not I have been blocked from such things in the past and forced to use the public facilities, which sometimes don't work.

I don't think that the nation will go back to having public external toilets that are not pay per use or restricted in some way due to the inherent vandalism and abuse those facilities get. Although some places do have their public toilets unrestricted at night, others are a safe haven because you do have to pay to use them and therefore haven't been broken.
