Desperation in Books and Stories

Post by Shinji09 »

Seeing as we have a thread regarding instances of desperation in movies/tv I thought we should also have one devoted to all the times people to have to pee in books as well.

I have found instances of being desperate to pee to be quite common regarding literature surrounding all branches of the armed forces from soldiers to sailors. This first story I'm about to share goes over how Marines were forced to go hours without reliving themselves because of a military parade being held. http://www.mofak.com/Parades_and_Bladders.htm .This second story deals with a bunch of Naval cadets getting stuck in traffic while driving to a football game. http://www.mofak.com/army_navy_game_1962.htm .This final story goes over how a pilot was forced to circle an airport with a full bladder for an hour cause of the weather. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Pi ... frontcover .

if any of you know of similar instances in other books or stories I would love to hear them.

I know there are many armed services stories. There's more than one sergeant who has required new recruits to drink large amounts of water - to prevent dehydration of course ;-) - and then delayed opportunities for relief until some ended with wet pants. It can be a hot subject!

I always wondered if the Hardy Boys ended up needing a wee when they were tied up?!

Love this topic thread! Horror books and stories are often filled with pee scenes. And, Stephen King famously writes lots of desperation and wetting into his works.

If anybody has read the "Swimming Pool Library" by Alan Hollinghurst there is an amazing description of the desperation of one of the characters, Phil.
I remember a good friend introducing me to it about 30 years ago!! Just reread the book on holiday this summer

I have this book, my favourite part is the lout/youth in the graveyard, (not a pee desperation scene, but does involve squeezing :) ) . But the chapter where 'Phil is taken to the home of some lecherous photographers in super tight and too small clothing and helped to drink far too much beer on t he way home. When they arrive home poor Phil who has been walking along squeezing and hobbling is persuaded to 'let go' onto the tiles of (and my memory is a little hazy) either the kitchen or scullery floor. The pulsing of urine and other things through the underwear is noted in the description of the event.

In movies and books, characters eat and drink all the time. Very few of them pee. In fact, if you follow the action, sometimes there is no opportunity for them to pee. It's a part of real life and something we all do, so why not mention it?
