When I first saw it I too thought he had a 'firming up' problem, but I think it is actually down to an optical illusion caused by the angle of the camera and the type of lense.

Thanks for your comments Fred and bodgyuk. I appreciate the insights! Apart from the obvious hand action, what clinched it for me is the way he's standing in the bus. One leg is in front of the other, which is unnatural in a moving vehicle because it would make it harder for him to keep his balance. I think he's absolutely busting.
