More sporting event fun:

Hope everyone’s well, I feel a little bad with friends all over the world describing going back into lock-downs while here in AU we’re continuing to open more and more, but it does mean I have some more experiences and insights in the absence of anything else.
Anyway, long, all day event sporting event, also being broadcast, and again pulled in for some additional work with a long ago employer and did find myself, unintentionally, stationed opposite one of the toilet blocks so here’s what I’ve got:

Bad timing for a security guard: One of the security personnel who was stationed externally in the park opposite was making his way back to the venue and just as he reached my location received a radio call (I didn’t hear) so turned around and ran back to his external position in the park. Shortly after, some groups of participants were escorted between the venue and transport via the park, naturally security would have been required to facilitate, so best guess is that’s what the call was. Anyway, only 15 minutes or so and the escort was all done but I had noticed him doing a bit of a ‘jig’ while back over in the park. He came straight back over, exchanged a bit of a knowing expression and sigh of relief and went straight into the toilet, which is where I guess he intended to go 15 minutes earlier before he was interrupted and delayed.

Bus driver toilet escort: Buses are organised to transport spectators out post event. With COVID, entry to the venue is strictly controlled though and the drivers are not accredited to enter. In my experience, even during normal times, they usually aren’t but it’s always just been understood and everyone just uses discretion in allowing external service personnel to access facilities as required. There was a call advising that a bus driver would be at my location shortly and authorizing to have him ‘escorted’ to the toilet. Sure enough, a big smiley faced friendly guy came running up the path looking a bit desperate. I just said “it’s OK, we already knew” and quickly put him through the registration/check-in process then directed him towards the toilets opposite (I’m trusting and didn’t feel it necessary to ‘escort’ even if that could have been fun, sorry) he said something like “thanks, you’re a lifesaver” and ran in. It goes without saying, I (and surely any decent person) would do this anyway, I just found the specific instruction from event-control interesting. Clearly all the strict procedures everywhere now create new complications and I’d feel bad if a driver did get stuck with someone unwilling to use some discretion (refusing access) with the ‘rules’.

Inexperienced coworker: Normally you can judge pretty well when peak traffic times will be and take breaks accordingly in between. I guess not as easily for anyone new and inexperienced though. Anyway, just as traffic was increasing at one point a young coworker asked sheepishly if he could 'run to toilet'. Really just an observation (which I think has been made many times already) that younger men, for whatever reason, don't plan. They'll hold on even when they have ample opportunity to go or be embarrassed to ask and by the time it's too late there's no way out. Of course it was fine, I've made it clear in previous stories I'm one who will always accommodate (as all in leadership roles should) even at inopportune times for reasoning like that stated above.

Busting broadcast personnel holding on until commercial breaks: Long event, and by the time we got to the last few hours most spectators were gone and mainly only broadcast and event personnel remained so a pattern emerged (which had probably been recurrent all day but unnoticed). Instead of the regular spectator flow, personnel would come bolting down the stairs and run for the toilets at specific intervals. Sometimes with headpieces and other gear still attached (no time to take off and put back on) or even in one instance with a couple of large cameras over his shoulder. It got me thinking about the broadcast personnel, they would (have to) wait for breaks in programming or make a ‘run for it’ during the limited/short commercial breaks. COVID complications, the venue is divided into areas, each barricaded off and people from different areas not meant to mingle. Slightly inconvenient, the toilet block opposite my location was just behind a barrier, so if you came from the wrong direction you’d find you couldn’t access it and needed to walk back the other way 200 metres or so to the one designated to your area, maybe fine for a spectator with time but inconvenient for broadcast personnel trying to make a 'run for it' during a commercial break. I was about to go myself when a media guy came running down the stairs, saw the barrier and exclaimed in good humor something like “it’s so hard to just take a piss now” and went to go back the other way. I opened the barrier and said “it’s fine just come straight back after”. After he came back and I closed the barrier and went for mine, I could tell that he’d done a good one, the results were still there. I could have said/done nothing, assuming that with limited time he’d probably just have to go back to the broadcast and hold on until the next commercial break, but that’s for the imagination, unfortunately I’m much more accommodating in reality.

As usual, some embellishments (and speculations) for excitement, but all true. Hope they're interesting for some.
I'm getting pulled into more and more stuff coming up, I'll keep an eye out for more. :)

At any all-day event, it can be awkward for those who are doing their jobs to find time to pee. And as we know, young men are more likely to hold it in until a good opportunity comes along, and sometimes it doesn't. A great collection!

Yes, a great collection.
As someone who works in one of the several functions you describe there, I would very much have appreciated your willingness to let me through for an emergency pee.
